Keep Suffolk Beautiful and the Suffolk Clean Community Commission will host a R(E)cycling Drive and Tire Amnesty Day on Saturday, April 15th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Lowe's Parking Lot, 1216 North Main Street.
Acceptable Materials for the event include: tires (tires must be automobile and light truck weight/size and no greater than 22 inches inside diameter with no rims), electronics, all types of paper, household glass and plastic bottles (#1 and #2), batteries, steel, tin, aluminum cans, cardboard, furniture, flat screen TVs (will not accept TVs with tubes), cell phones, gently used clothing, computers, cordless tools, plastic bags, CFL light bulbs (no long tubes), mower and car batteries.
The Southeastern Public Service Authority (SPSA) will be on hand to take household hazardous waste such as paint, household cleaning products, automotive products and indoor/outdoor pesticides.
Onsite shredding will be offered and residents can bring up to 3 brown bags of documents to be shredded and are to remain with the documents until they are shredded.
The event also provides an opportunity to help the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia. Items being collected include lean canned protein, canned fruits and vegetables, cereal, pasta, oatmeal, rice, crackers, soups, stews, boxed meals, canned pasta, formula, baby food, diapers, wipes and donated funds. The Lions Club will be a part of the event this year and will be collecting eye glasses and hearing aids.
