Down Home Day

Southampton Heritage Village and Agriculture & Forestry Museum is featuring its 15th annual family-oriented “Down Home Day—Ya’ll Come!” on Saturday, April 13th. The museum is at 26135 Heritage Lane in Courtland. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for school age children. Pre-schoolers are free. The Museum of Southampton History will also be open with special exhibits. Activities planned for the day include something for all members of the family, offering a chance to enjoy life at a slower pace. Special exhibits include a collection of old hand tools for hands-on activities. Sixteen model trains will be running on three levels, and someone will be blowing glass. A diorama scene of downtown Franklin will be on special exhibit. Activities include music by well-known local musicians, Jimmy Ricks and his “Shiloh Grass” band.

Smithfield Farmers Market

The Smithfield & Carrollton Farmers Markets are dedicated to being genuine homegrown, homemade, and handcrafted farmers markets. Vendors are all local farmers, ranchers, home cooks, crafters, artisans and craftsmen within 100 miles of Smithfield, VA. The Smithfield Farmers Market is open every Saturday morning from 9am - 12pm, with Holiday markets running from 9am-1pm. It is held in the parking lot of Bank of Southern Virginia at 115 Main Street, Smithfield. The Carrollton Farmers Market is held every Wednesday afternoon from 3pm-6pm, with a special Carrollton Christmas Market planned for November 30th, 10am - 4pm. It is held in the parking lot of Old Point National Bank, off HWY 17 in Carrollton.

The Downtown Franklin Farmers Market is located next to the Train Depot/Visitor Center at 210 S. Main Street, Franklin. The Market is open two days a week, Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM and Wednesdays for a specialty market from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM. The Downtown Franklin Farmers Market provides the local and surrounding communities with access to locally grown fruits and vegetables along with specialty items such as honey, jams, homemade soaps, locally raised meats and eggs, and much more.
